From 8–10 July, the Tacx crew was present at the world’s most renown cycling trade show, Eurobike. In beautiful Friedrichshafen near the Bodensee in the south of Germany, the biggest brands of the cycling world put their (newest) products on display. This year the trade show was retail first, which meant that doors only opened to trade visitors, giving up on the normal consumer day on the fourth day. The show proved to be packed with the latest tech products and gadgets, especially for indoor cycling; the industry has a lot coming for this winter.
The date change, in 2017 Eurobike was held in early September, and the different format, B2B only, caused a bit of uproar in the business. The reason behind this was for the trade show to be more relevant, to strengthen its position as the leading trade show for new trends and innovations, and suggested that September would be too late for the business timetable.
NEO Bike Smart
The first item that we had on display at Eurobike is the NEO Bike Smart. This fitness bike is pushing everything we know about indoor cycling to the next level. The combination of its unique features like road feel, gear feel, virtual gears, air fans, dynamic inertia and downhill drive makes cycling indoors surprisingly realistic and fun. With customizable touchpoints, it even feels like cycling on your road or tri bike. Complete silence, an integrated display, programmable control buttons, phone and tablet holder are all enabling an easy way of using your preferred applications. The NEO Bike received tremendous interest from visitors at the Tacx booth. Everyone wanted a glimpse of the fully functioning smart bike, of which we already presented a demo model during Eurobike 2017, and to check out how realistic cycling on it really was.
FLUX 2 Smart
Another new trainer that we will be launching is the FLUX 2 Smart. This premium Smart trainer is an improved version of the iconic FLUX Smart trainer. With a maximum incline of 16%, increased max resistance of 2000W and improved ride feel, the FLUX 2 Smart has everything you need. Internal and external design adjustments allow for a wider compatibility range of axles and bikes. By supplying this direct drive trainer with extra axle adapters, the axle compatibility significantly increased. The FLUX 2 Smart is compatible with 142x12mm and 148x12mm, straight out of the box.
Tacx Desktop app: new features
Our trainers were connected to the newest version of our training software: the Tacx Desktop app. With this subscription-based training software, which is available for Windows and Mac, you can enjoy a library filled with high quality training films, structured training plans, GPS workouts, and tools to analyse and share your data with apps like Strava. The version we showed will be released in September and has some cool new features like live opponents and GPS-workouts based on 3D maps.
Furthermore, we came up with a solution to easily place your bottle when you have a compact bike frame: the Tacx Radar. The Radar is a side load bottle cage with very good clamping and is especially designed to fit small bike frames. You insert and remove your bottle sideways, from either the left or the right side. The body of the Radar is made from a strong glass fibre compound. We increased its clamping force even further by giving it a round shape with extra ribs.
With over 35,000 visitors from over 100 countries, this is one of the leading global trade shows in the bike business. Eurobike 2018 came to an end and we were very happy to be one of over 1,300 exhibitors present during the 27th edition. In 2019, Eurobike will move back to its original dates in early September and consumers will also be welcomed back on the closing day of the trade show. The organization claims that numerous market players expressed their wish to move Eurobike to a later date in future and that it had received tremendous support both during and after the past trade exhibition.
See you next year!
